Tribeca's Halloween Starts a Week Early and Peaks in One Two-Hour Window

October 15, 2026

Tribeca's Halloween already started on October 10, when the installation at 21 Jay Street switched on. The Washington Market Park Halloween Parade comes on October 25, six days before the holiday. On Halloween itself, a Saturday this year, three separately organized events run in the same few blocks, and their hours overlap only from 3 to 5 p.m.

A family that turns up at 5:30 on the 31st has missed one of the three. A family that skipped the 25th because "Halloween is next week" has missed the parade.

The calendar, start to finish

  • October 10 through 31: "Nightmare on 21 Jay Street," an installation at Jay and Greenwich, open Monday through Thursday 4 to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday 4 to 11 p.m.
  • October 18, 3 p.m.: Cirque-tacular's "Spooktacular" at Tribeca PAC, 199 Chambers Street. Tickets are $40, or $30 for 5Club members.
  • October 24, 3 to 6 p.m.: Pumpkin Carving Contest at Washington Market Park.
  • October 25, 1 p.m.: Washington Market Park Halloween Parade.
  • October 31: Jay Street closes to cars as an NYC DOT Trick-or-Streets site, Barnett Newman Triangle runs its own event, Bogardus Plaza hosts its Spooktacular, and neighborhood storefronts hand out candy.

Tribeca has two different "Spooktacular" events this year, nearly two weeks apart. The one on the 18th is a ticketed theater show. The one on the 31st is a free walk-through on a plaza on Hudson Street.

Jay Street runs longest, and this year it's official

21 Jay is the one Tribeca Halloween site that lasts the whole season. The Tribeca Trib's 2026 Halloween guide describes characters that move and speak, and says the display is "especially" creepy after dark. Worth a Shot Events designed and installed it. Because it opens at 4 p.m. every day, a weeknight visit after dinner works better than a Saturday-afternoon one if the point is the lighting.

What's new is the street permit. Tribeca Citizen reports that the building has closed the street for a block party for the past few years, with an inflatable corn maze and a DJ, and that "this year it's official." The city's Trick-or-Streets schedule now lists Jay Street between Hudson and Greenwich as "Nightmare on 21 Jay Street," Saturday, October 31, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. DOT describes the program as turning Open Streets, plazas and other corridors into car-free spaces in coordination with local partners.

Listing the block party on the DOT schedule gives Jay Street the longest window of any Tribeca event on Halloween. The installation's posted weekend hours run until 11 p.m., and the DOT street window ends at 10.

The park weekend comes a week early

The Friends of Washington Market Park hold their weekend on October 24 and 25, a full week before Halloween. That puts the park's parade and contest on a different weekend from the holiday.

Saturday, October 24. The 12th annual Pumpkin Carving Contest is free and open to anyone. Bring a pumpkin you've already carved. Drop-off runs from 3 to 5 p.m., judging from 5 to 5:30, and awards are announced at 5:30. The categories are most creative, funniest, scariest, cutest and most realistic, plus a new "master blade" category whose winner gets a cash prize. The event page doesn't mention any advance registration.

Sunday, October 25. The Halloween Parade lines up at 12:45 p.m. at Greenwich and Beach Streets and steps off at 1. The Queer Big Apple Corps leads it, then plays on the park lawn from 1:15 to 2. Tribeca Citizen reports that the School of Rock House Band follows from the gazebo. The Friends' own page doesn't list that set, so treat it as likely rather than confirmed. The Tribeca Trib puts the lineup at Greenwich and Hubert. The organizer's page says Beach, and that's the one to go by.

The same weekend competes with Governors Island's free Pumpkin Point at Nolan Park, October 24 and 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with pumpkin picking, trick-or-treating and crafts. Sunday's schedule leaves room for both, since the parade finishes on the lawn by early afternoon. Saturday is harder, because Pumpkin Point's posted hours end at 5 and the carving contest's awards are at 5:30.

October 31 compresses everything into two hours

Halloween falling on a Saturday means every Tribeca event that keys off the date lands on one weekend afternoon. Here's how the posted hours line up:

Site Location Organizer Hours on Oct 31
Nightmare on 21 Jay Street Jay Street, Hudson to Greenwich Worth A Shot Events 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Barnett Newman Triangle Church Street, Franklin to White Friends of Barnett Newman Triangle 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Halloween Spooktacular Bogardus Plaza, Hudson between Chambers and Reade Friends of Bogardus Plaza 3 to 7 p.m.

Barnett Newman Triangle closes at 5. Bogardus opens at 3. That leaves only two hours, 3 to 5 p.m., when all three sites are running. Bogardus bills its setup as a spooky walk-through with photo opportunities, and Tribeca Citizen says it's best for ages 5 to 12.

Storefront candy is the loosest piece. Tribeca Citizen says shops will hand it out on the 31st "shortly after school gets out," but with Halloween on a Saturday there's no school day to time it by, and no start time has been posted.

The Seaport also targets the same 3-to-5 window. The South Street Seaport Museum's Halloweekend offers free admission from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., a 2 p.m. costume parade, and neighborhood trick-or-treating from 3 to 5. So between 3 and 5, a family picks a neighborhood.

A route that follows the clock

All three Tribeca sites sit within a short walk of one another. Their closing times decide the order.

  1. Barnett Newman Triangle first, before 5. It closes earliest, and it's the farthest east, on Church between Franklin and White.
  2. Bogardus Plaza next. Head south and west to Hudson between Chambers and Reade. It runs until 7, so arriving after the triangle closes still leaves two hours.
  3. Jay Street last, after dark. Walk north on Hudson or Greenwich to Jay. The installation is at its best once the light goes, and the street stays closed to cars until 10 p.m.
  4. Dinner close to wherever the night ends. Suram, a Japanese spot that Tribeca Citizen reported open in August, is on Greenwich just south of North Moore in Independence Plaza, a short walk from Jay Street. True North opened in September in the former North Bar space at Greenwich and Desbrosses, a few blocks farther north.

If the day starts earlier, Modern Bread & Bagel, the gluten-free bakery and café that opened in September at 130 Duane Street at Church, sits between the triangle and Bogardus.

DOT notes that Trick-or-Streets events can be delayed or canceled, and its map may update later than the event list. Check the Trick-or-Streets page on the morning of the 31st.

The quieter dates in between

The weeknights between the two peaks have their own smaller events just outside Tribeca's borders. Sadie's NYC Garden Bar at 19 Fulton Street screens a free outdoor Halloween movie every Wednesday at 7 p.m. That's Halloweentown on October 14, Practical Magic on October 21 and Hocus Pocus on October 28. The Tribeca Trib also lists a pumpkin arch on the north side of the Pier 17 roof deck at 89 South Street, starting October 22.

Those weeknights also work for 21 Jay, since the installation opens at 4 p.m. every day and stays up until 10 Monday through Thursday.

Our team follows Tribeca block by block, through street closures, new openings and whatever's on the corner of Jay and Greenwich this month. If you'd like to talk about the blocks you already know or the ones you're curious about, Varun Sharma and The Johnny Lal Team are glad to compare notes. Get in Touch.
